Katie is a Software Developer in the Algorithms Development Team. Her work focuses on complex polyploid plant assembly. She uses existing tools and contributes to the development of the team’s software by designing and implementing bioinformatics algorithms
Prior to joining the Earlham Institute Katie worked as a software developer for two years, but was keen to go back to computational science. Katie's academic background is in computational and mathematical physics. She has an MSc in Mathematical Logic and a PhD in Quantum Information, where she simulated theoretical models of quantum computation.
Outside of academic work, she is a keen member of the Python community. she has spoken at both PyCon UK and PyData London, is on the review committee for PyData London. This year she joined the international Python community by helping organise a free workshop to teach women in Namibia to code as part of PyCon Namibia.
