I am a PhD student in the Saunders Group. My project is focused on epidemiological modelling for wheat yellow rust disease. This disease is caused by a fungus called Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (PST) and it causes very important crop losses worldwide. Throughout the duration of my PhD I will study the relationship between PST genotypes detected early in the wheat-growing season with those prevalent later on in the year. I also aim to develop a spatially-explicit model for the spread of PST, scaling-up field-scale dynamics and competition between pathogen strains to landscape-scale spread.
