Biography

Helen completed her BSc in Biological Sciences at the University of Birmingham and her PhD in Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Rothamsted Research. She has experience of both lab-based and office-based roles, in locations as diverse as Switzerland and Northampton, and came to Norwich in 2007 to work at The Sainsbury Laboratory. Before joining the Earlham Institute, she completed the ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management at the UEA, and enjoys combining her scientific background with a love of organising things in her role of Project Manager.

Her primary responsibilities involve ensuring that all projects, whether from external customers or from EI Faculty members, progress efficiently through the pipelines. She liaises with colleagues throughout the sample QC, library construction, sequencing and bioinformatics phases of the projects to help ensure the optimal use of resources and rapid troubleshooting of any issues. She also handles administration and enquiries relating to BioNano optical mapping.

Helen is originally from the West Country, loves hills - and mountains whenever possible - but has nevertheless become a fan of the North Norfolk coast. If she’s not at work or at the gym, she can often be found wandering along a beach.
