Georgia Love

I am currently undertaking a year in industry with the Nieduszynski group at EI as part of my Integrated Master's degree in Biochemistry at the University of Warwick, which will explore themes of DNA replication and genome stability.

My project, entitled 'Examining DNA replication through fragile sites in Saccharomyces cerevisiae', aims to discover why DNA replication is stressed within these large, AT-rich 'fragile sites'.

DNA damage within these difficult-to-replicate genomic regions is associated with genome instability and cancer development in humans.

Using a combination of wet lab and bioinformatic pipelines, I will identify patterns of DNA replication across model 'fragile sites' across thousands of single yeast cells. This will reveal the location and type of DNA replication errors found at 'fragile sites'.

My interests lie in the genetics of human disease, notably autoimmunity and cancers. During my time at EI, I hope to develop my research skills and interests whilst contributing to projects at the forefront of genomic research.

My recent internship at the UEA sparked my interest in bioinformatics and coding which I hope to pursue further at EI.
