Dr Rahuman S. Malik Sheriff’s research develops hybrid mechanistic - AI / machine learning modelling methods to build digital twins of patients’ cells and tissues for precision medicine, with current focus on cancer immunotherapy and rare diseases. He co-leads a $1.6M Chan Zuckerberg Initiative programme on rare-disease digital twins and contributes to several international industrial/academic consortiums and collaborations. 

Sheriff was previously Senior Project Leader at EMBL-EBI, where he led BioModels - a leading open repository for curated computational models in biology. 

He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London and an Affiliate Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Florida. 

At the Earlham Institute, Sheriff leads a research group developing AI modelling for digital twins, with a vision to advance interpretable, actionable twins that bridge fundamental biology and real-world applications. 

Sheriff's research will develop methods to construct and apply this technology to various areas, including precision medicine for rare diseases and cancer immunotherapy, microbiome–host interactions, and plant biology. 

He completed his PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology and postdoctoral training at MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences, Imperial College London. 

Dr Sheriff is deeply engaged with the SBML/COMBINE standards community and collaborates with Open Targets and major pharmaceutical partners.
