Biography
Laura is a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Guiziou group at the Earlham Institute, where she works on engineering root architecture using cell fate-specific integrase switches. The project aims to engineer deeper root systems in Arabidopsis thaliana to reach deeper sources of water, and ultimately to develop root architectures that can adapt to different environmental conditions.
Laura received her PhD from the University of Cologne, where she investigated the molecular mechanisms by which light signalling regulates plant development in Arabidopsis thaliana. During her subsequent postdoctoral research in the Plant Ecological Genetics transregional collaborative research centre, she investigated how plants detect and respond to neighbouring plants.
During her studies, she also gained research experience at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research and at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, working on plant development and flowering time regulation in Arabidopsis thaliana and Medicago truncatula.
