To provide an overview of the main aspects involved in metagenomics from the bench to data analysis and discussion around the interpretation and actual examples of the impact and applications of metagenomics derived research.

Understanding Miscanthus and its potential as a sustainable biofuel.

The course will provide an overview of bioinformatics from sequence searching, expression data, through to protein-protein interactions, including an overview of common databases, tools and tasks.

We are increasingly able to study evolutionary processes such as adaptation and speciation on a genomic scale. I will outline our work to assemble chromosomal-level assemblies of butterfly genomes using high resolution linkage maps.

This is an annual event giving school students the chance to experience life as a scientist at Earlham Institute and its partner institutes on the Norwich Research Park.

This workshop is aimed at early career researchers looking to analyse small RNA data produced from High Throughput Sequencing experiments on both plant and animal samples

We will be visiting Greater Ellingham School in Attleborough to enthuse and engage over 160 key stage 1 and 2 pupils and their teachers with the Institute’s innovative research.

Professional networking scares some people and can sometimes seem pointless or irrelevant. This workshop will address why this may be the case for scientists.

Our goal is to help scientists become more productive by teaching them basic computing skills like program design, version control, testing and task automation.

On Tuesday 26th April, four PhD students from Earlham Institute will present their research at the Cellar House in Eaton as part of PubhD. The showcase, entitled “Cereal killers, hybrid monsters, yams and wheat breeding,” will provide a fascinating insight into the varied topics that we research at EI, as well as the vital work undertaken by postgraduate students.

29 BSc/MSc Animal Science students from Writtle College, Chelmsford visited EI. The students participated in welcome talks, lab tours and data centre tours, followed by talks from bioinformaticians who specialised in animal sequencing who will describe the work they do at EI.
