I am currently working on the 10,000 Salmonella genomes project, applying bioinformatics to global, large-scale data to study the epidemiology, transmission and virulence of invasive non-typhoidal Salmonellosis.
I also work on the genome evolution of intestinal eukaryotes which helps address the complex interplay of factors that exist in the intestinal environment and which may contribute to disease and infection.
My background has included work on genome evolution of human exonic splice enhancers and of deep-branching eukaryotic pathogens. Both of these projects, similar to my current work, use evolution to understand the interactions of humans with symbionts, pathogenic and commensal.
